Boldface was founded in 2009 by the editors of Glass Mountain, the undergraduate literary magazine at the University of Houston.  Our goal is to give emerging writers an experience that is usually available only to professional writers, through workshops, readings, and craft talks.

Participants attend workshops, readings, craft talks and optional evening social events such as open-mic readings. Visiting authors are on hand to talk about their work and meet with students who have signed up for individual work critiques.
Professional panels give you the opportunity to hear from established editors, UH creative writing faculty, librarians, small press staff, and local arts organizations to enhance the Boldface experience. Networking opportunities abound at Boldface. We hope you’ll make many friends with other emerging writers and established professionals, and have fun doing it!
Workshops give valuable feedback on your work and the chance to hone your critiquing skills. When registering, participants choose the genre they wish to work on: fiction, nonfiction, or poetry. During the conference each participant takes part in a  small group workshop in that genre, led by a graduate student from the University of Houston’s Creative Writing Program.
